First of all, how is it possibly September already? The Summer flew by (too bad all that flying didn't cause a cool breeze - if nothing, it was a HOT summer!), and Autumn is literally around the corner. Kids are back in school, and there is the hope of cooler weather in the near future. I can't wait to arrive at the Market bundled up in a fleece, and coming home with a pumpkin. Not to mention grabbing my local Thanksgiving turkey from the Market for the holidays!
Before I get too far ahead of myself with Autumn Dreams, there is some Summer left to celebrate. Particularly THIS weekend, since it's Labor Day Weekend! If you've been coming to the Market for a while, you know the WCGM loves to celebrate this holiday with some Market festivities. For another year in a row, we'll be hosting the Labor Day Picnic! Stop by for FREE hotdogs and lemonade!
Have you prepared your Labor Day menu yet? The WCGM is a great place to stock up on fresh ingredients for your holiday dinners and cookouts! Here is some info from our vendors:
Ellen April Handcrafted Soaps has been working on Autumn-themed products this week! A double batch ofPumpkin Spice soap is made and curing on the rack. Expect to see it at the Market towards the end of September. This week Ellen will be bringing a variety of our luxurious soaps to market. She'll also have a selection of "orphans and uglies" at a bargain price. They are perfectly good soaps that are cosmetically challenged or the last of their kind.
North Star Orchard writes, "Just in time for Labor Day picnics: apple and Asian pear cider! We'll be pressing the first batch this week, and they always go fast...hope you get some! If you miss the cider this week, no worries - we plan to have some available every week from here on out. (Note to Gold Rush fans: Gold Rush varietal cider will come along in mid-November as usual....stay tuned!) Hosui Asian pears are juicier and sweeter than ever this year! We'll have plenty at the market this weekend - they'd be a great addition to your holiday picnics!"
Pureblend Tea has 2 new Iced Latte's - Mocha Spice Chai Latte & Apple Cinnamon Chai Latte with Almond or Rice Milk. Also at the Market this week: Nettle Leaf Detox Tea - Discover the benefits of Nettle Leaf!
Lindenhof Farm has all your Labor Day Cookout needs, as well as meats for your school-year meals. This week, they will have lots of fresh chickens, whole or parts. Stop in for fresh turkey items such as ground, sausages, drumsticks, and split breasts. A new item will be a boneless/skinless London Broil cut from the turkey breast. Of course, they'll bring plenty of beef items for the grill such as patties, steaks, roasts and kabobs. Lamb and pork items are also available, along with fresh eggs and plenty of homemade turkey and chicken pies.
Chile Spot will be at the Market, but only until 11:30am, so be sure to stop in for your SPICY fix before then! A new batch of salsa has been made and will be available in LIMITED QUANTITIES this weekend as Chile Spot builds their inventory back up. Also plenty of fresh-picked peppers for purchase!
Lizzie's Kitchen has your Labor Day desserts covered! As the weather gets cooler, her sticky buns are highly recommended for chilly mornings. Pair it with coffee!
Big Sky Bread Company will be at the Market with loads of breads and baked goods. Grab a crusty loaf to complete your cookout meals. Cut slices of bread, baste with oil, and throw on the grill for 1-2 minutes each side. Makes a great, crunchy side!
And, as always, stop in at all of our farm vendors for fresh fruit (a fruit crisp is a great way to end your cookout!) and vegetables (nothing tastes better than a fresh, local salad).
Looking forward to celebrating and shopping with you at tomorrow's Labor Day festivities!
I'll see YOU at the Market!
